Together Is Now Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Relationship.

Here's a challenge for partners in committed relationships who appreciate horror films: Settle in with your significant other and watch Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie recently had its launch on a streaming platform on Hulu. On the surface, it may seem like conventional biological terror, but inside Together resides a profound examination about our choices in loving each other.

An Introductory Film Delving into Relationship Dynamics

Together marks the introductory feature for director Michael Shanks. It showcases the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, partners that have remained a couple for over ten years. United in marriage in real life in 2017, Franco and Brie infuse a unique chemistry to their portrayals, expertly portraying both the joys and frustrations of a long-term relationship.

The plot starts when Millie and Tim relocate from the metropolis to the country for Millie’s job. A familiar story element, of course, but that’s primarily where the tropes cease. Together transforms into as much a examination of mental states of the couple's dynamic as it is a film about physical terror.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While hiking near their new home, a tempest descends, and the protagonists fall into an underground cave. After a night spent there and finally finding a way out, a supernatural entity starts to affect the couple. This force induces a supernatural closeness between them that goes well past typical partnership.

The whole movie is a gradually intensifying horror experience, interspersing moments of fever-dream horrors, disturbing (but not excessively graphic) biological grotesqueries, and genuinely funny exchanges (sometimes in the middle of something horrific). The director orchestrates these parts expertly and wraps them up in a consistently growing atmosphere of fear.

Layered Performances

A significant portion of Together is exclusively the performances of its stars, and they masterfully render numerous complexities to the partnership at the film's core. Millie’s confidence and emotional bond is deteriorating due to a distance. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his reluctance to focus on anything other than his struggling artistic pursuits gradually emerges.

Conversely, Tim feels trapped and cut off by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve moved to the country and distant from his support system. He is terrified of the concept of utterly sacrificing his sense of self in another person. This fear is amplified by the reality he does not operate a vehicle and needs Millie for mobility.

The director's cleverest decision is that he avoids making either of his characters the definite antagonist.

Tim and Millie face the type of challenges that arise in long-term unions after ten years. At their core, they have affection for one another. They share moments of joy, provide solace, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an unavoidable feeling of questioning about their bond.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the otherworldly presence in Together represent these anxieties of unhealthy attachment and fully committing to another person, the symbolism never feels overly obvious or heavy-handed. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments offer a perfect parallel to the character-driven drama. Both the horror and the drama enhance each other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has sparked debate on the film’s ultimate message about enmeshed dynamics. Reports indicate that unattached audience members have interpreted the film as a compelling reason for avoiding commitment. Conversely, a few pairs who were in conflict found that the film ultimately assisted them resolve their issues.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own response could potentially serve as a telling indicator of how you view relationships. Will the ending plant feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a positive outlook on love? Will you see yourself in either protagonist and feel frustration, or simply turn to your other half and say, “I’d do that for you”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an test you can embark on right now.

Together is available to watch on the streaming service Hulu as of this moment.
