Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other vandalized cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say initial examinations suggest the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; officials are not yet informed of any physical harm in association with the event," they commented.
City officials stated they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for information.
A high-ranking official stated the incident rendered him stunned and required to be addressed promptly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the killing of nine people by a assailant targeting individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
